Morning Tasks
Customers come first, always be close to a phone and keep an eye on the front of the store. Especially if opening alone.
After you clock in, start on the Store Checklist.
Answer any questions the delivery drivers have about the orders.
On the front desk computer check the front desk emails. Forward any to Anne, Shawn if needed. Delete junk mail.
Day Tasks (Deliveries, customers, and landscaping)-
*ALWAYS welcome customers. If they are wandering out front, casually go up and welcome/ask them if they need help finding something.*
General Customer Help:
Questions about plants that you don’t know the answer to go to Shawn or Anne. David can be useful when wondering about location for specific outdoor/ greenhouse plants, as well as what chemicals to use on plants.
Questions about house plants are best answered by Dee (works Wednesday and Friday), and Ryan (everyday).
If someone needs bulk material loaded, call David or Ken, after they check out, to go load.
Landscaping
If a customer calls or comes in and asks for a landscape consultation go to the landscape form on the homepage of the iPad. Put in your employee name and select the landscape request under “Input Type”. After clicking next it'll take you to the form and you enter in the customers information. Once submitted it will go to Anne. Tell them it will be 5-10 business days until they hear anything back (Double check the lead time).
If a customer comes in or calls and is already having landscape work done by our crew and only has a question or concern, follow the same steps but select “Note to Landscape Team” under “Input Type” and follow the prompts from there.
If they sign up for consultation, hand them a landscape consult questionnaire so they can prepare ideas/questions for meeting with the landscape designer.
Running the Register
When checking out a customer always ask if they have an account with us first thing, to apply to the sale. If you don’t add it till the end the discounts won't be applied to the item. If you are having trouble finding the name for the account, ask them how to spell their name, or for their phone number.
If they don’t have a profile, ask them if they would like to create one, the main purpose is so they can have a purchase history here, and possibly join our newsletter. (also landscapers/contractors can get a discount). Get name, phone number, and ask if they would like to add email to join the newsletter
You can’t put a new customer in as a landscape/contractor unless they have proof of business (business card, wearing a uniform, etc.)
If a landscape/contractor calls/comes in to charge their account make sure their account is chargeable/ have enough funds remaining before hanging up/leaving.
When entering items you can search them in the items bar. Start by entering the first few letters of whatever you are searching. The more letters or words you enter the less likely you are to find the item.
When the barcode scanner is working you can scan the tag on pots and plants by selecting the search item box, scanning the barcode with the scanner and clicking enter or it may pop up automatically on the screen. If the scanner does not work, enter manually.
Once all items are entered, click payment and select their choice of payment. If they use the card reader then input the amount onto the card reader before having them place their card on there (card ready is not connected to the iPad). Once paid, hand them the large receipt.
Receiving Shipment of plants/pots:
When a shipment of plants comes in, notify Shawn or Anne. Hand them the delivery slip. Trees and shrubs get dropped off up top by the tree line, while perennials and annuals get dropped off to the right of the store front. Once unloaded don’t move plants until they have been counted, added to the inventory, and tagged.
Return Policy:
Only Ryan, Shawn or Anne can authorize a refund. Please get one of them if a customer is asking for one.
Plants can not be returned. Once they leave property we are not held responsible for their care unless we personally install them.
Pots and Market/Store items can be returned with receipt if they are in good condition/ not broken. Only accept if it has been less than 30 days since purchase.
Pricing for Potting Plants:
If a customer purchases a plant we can pot for them depending on availability if they purchased a plant and pot from us or if it is a small plant.
If it is a large outdoor plant it can be potted for a price to cover time spent and soil.
Jobs that take longer than 30 min and include design/multiple plants per pot come at a charge.
Only Shawn, Ryan, Dee, Anne and Bailey should pot plants for customers.
Evening-
Complete store checklist for closing.
Make sure to get all the trash! And replace the liners.
When closing the register, staple receipts from the day together and put in the blue bag in the safe. Count out the cash and put any extra cash in the blue bag with the register keys. Les uses extra cash and receipts to double check numbers for the day.
